The General Data Protection Regulation, best known as GDPR or European Regulation n. (EU) 679/2016 is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all citizens and residents within the European Union (EU). The regulation became enforceable on May 25th 2018.
The regulation applies to personal data processing and to non-automatic personal data processing considering data as stored in an archive, called (artt.2 and 4) "database". The regulation applies to all enterprises, authorities and organizations based with their registered office outside the European Union but managing European citizens' personal data, aside from the localization of their recording systems (storage) or processing systems (servers). According to the European Commission, personal data is any information relating to an individual, whether it relates to his or her private, professional or public life.
